Robust Airborne Networking Extensions (RANGE)

چکیده
The Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) routingprotocol for IP networks performs inefficiently when operatedover multihop, broadcast-based radio channels such as IEEE802.11 in IBSS mode. These types of networks are known moregenerally as mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET). The InternetEngineering Task Force (IETF) OSPF working group has beenconsidering extensions to OSPF to enhance performance oversuch channels, and multiple OSPF MANET proposed extensionsare advancing to experimental status. Although OSPF MANETperforms more efficiently within the MANET itself, it has theside effect of propagating large numbers of routing updatesthroughout the rest of the OSPF flooding domain. In this paper,we examine OSPF MANET’s interaction with attached non-MANET networks, and explore various techniques for reducingthe overhead, such as static and dynamic route summarization, route redistribution, cross-layer abstraction techniques, and tun-neling approaches between MANET Border Routers (MBR)s. Weuse a hybrid testbed/emulated network to quantitatively explorethe tradeoffs between different approaches.

متن کاملOn Connectivity of Airborne Networks
Mobility pattern of nodes in a mobile network has significant impact on the connectivity properties of the network. One such mobile network that has drawn attention of researchers in the past few years is the Airborne Networks (AN) due to its importance in civil and military purpose and due to the several complex issues in these domains. Since the nodes in an airborne network (AN) are heterogen...
متن کاملA Robust Surface Macthing Technique for Dem Integration in the Context of Coastal Geohazard Monitoring
With the increasing availability of a diverse range of datasets from sources such as airborne and terrestrial laser scanning, InSAR, and high resolution satellite remote sensing, there are improved opportunities for dataset integration and the synergistic benefits which this can offer. However, accurate registration is a fundamental pre-requisite for data fusion, and an issue which is often ove...
متن کاملUB-ANC: An Open Platform Testbed for Software-Defined Airborne Networking and Communications
We present the University at Buffalo’s Software-Defined Airborne Networking and Communications Testbed (UB-ANC). UB-ANC is an open software/hardware platform that aims to facilitate rapid testing and repeatable comparative evaluation of various airborne networking and communications protocols at different layers of the network protocol stack. In particular, it combines quadcopters capable of au...
متن کاملTCP over Geo-routing for High Mobility: Vehicle Grids and Airborne Swarms
Ad hoc wireless networks have become the architecture of choice for peer to peer communications in areas where the telecommunications infrastructure is inadequate or has failed. A major challenge is the reliable delivery of data when nodes move. The reliable Internet protocol is TCP. However, TCP performs poorly in mobile ad hoc networks, mainly because of route breakage. To overcome this probl...
